The Cahaba Valley Fire District is dedicated to protecting our community through fire prevention and education. We believe that informed residents are safer residents. This page provides valuable information on fire safety topics to help you and your family stay safe.

Key Fire Safety Tips

  • Smoke Alarms: Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace batteries annually.   More Information–>
  • Escape Plan: Create and practice a fire escape plan with your household. Have two ways out of every room and designate a safe meeting place outside.
  • Cooking Safety: Never leave cooking unattended. Keep children and pets away from the stove. If a grease fire starts, turn off the heat source and cover the pan with a lid.
  • Space Heaters: Use space heaters with caution. Keep them away from flammable materials and never leave them unattended.
  • Fireplace Safety: Use a fire screen to protect against sparks. Never burn paper or trash in the fireplace. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually.
  • Electrical Safety: Don’t overload electrical outlets. Replace frayed or damaged cords. Unplug electronics when not in use.
